Welcome to Becoming Madame’s first Green Chic video. Kindly excuse the longish intro with this one, but I felt it important to give a good introduction of the concept this first time.
Inspired by my years living among the French, this is an introduction to a way of living life both as a modern metropolitan and as a responsible custodian of the planet. Contrary to what some believe, being chic does not preclude being conscientious.
Here are Becoming Madame’s first five, über simple Green Chic Life Rules. Each month we’ll add five more. With baby steps, together we can make a difference!
If you happen to have ways that you practice Green Chic living, let us know. We’ll include them in our upcoming videos.
Totally off the subject here, but what about a video (if possible) on French kitchens. I want to re-decorate my kitchen and wondering how to make it quintessentially French–more towards the traditional, country look. Any suggestions?
I will most certainly do a video on French kitchens. That’s a terrific idea. In the meantime, here are some ideas: copper pots hanging from wrought iron fixture on the ceiling; a basket of eggs laid out on straw; large stone tiles on the floor; rough stucco walls painted a light mustard color; a large Cornue stove (http://www.lacornue.com/fr/cuisinieres/cornufe); an open wood buffet with large mix-matched bowls and plates laying on it. And of course a French door draped with flowing lace curtains. The real key to a traditional French kitchen (and decor in general) is not to have everything built in and identical. The French use armoirs and large pieces of antique furniture rather than built in cabinets. Their dishes are passed down through generations, so there are many pieces put artfully together. I’ll do an entire post about this. Great idea, thanks!! Take care.
Thank you! I eagerly await! I was examining your kitchen while you spoke, and noticed the cookbooks and such on the counter– a casual look. I am sooo loving your blog and videos.
I’m gathering photos from all the great kitchens I know here in Paris and my mother-in-law’s two fabulous country kitchens. Keep in mind that mine, in the videos, is in a Parisian apartment so there is much less room for what I really want to have. Space savers are the main ingredient right now. However, my butcher-block counter is fantastic.
